The Special Temple Anti-Theft Squad (STATS) formed to probe the case related to the missing of pendants from the Sree Krishna Swami temple at Ambalappuzha will launch the investigation soon.

R. Rajesh, Circle Inspector, STATS, said the probe had been delayed owing to other assignments. “We will commence the probe in a week,” Mr. Rajesh said.

The antique gold ornament belonging to the temple was found missing earlier this year. Later, it was recovered from the donation box on May 23 in a broken state.

However, an investigation by the Devaswom Vigilance had found three other pendants and seven chains missing from the temple. Initially, the case was probed by the local police.

With hardly any progress being made, D. Subhash, a member of the devotees outfit Karma Sena, moved the Kerala High Court seeking a detailed probe into the theft.

The court handed over the case to STATS on September 15.
