Somayagom concludes

The Somayagom at the Mahadevar Temple grounds at Elakolloor near Konni came to a close with the yagasala being set ablaze in the presence of a large number of devotees on Sunday afternoon.

The Somayagom, organised by the Vedasara Charitable Trust, was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on April 17 .

The vedic rituals began on April 20.

According to the organisers, it is for the first time a Somayaga was organised in Central Travancore.

The Keezhe Perumbadappu Vaidikan, Hrishikesan Namboodiri was the Yajamanan of the vedic event.

Perumbadappu Vaidikan Sankaranarayanan Adithirippad and Kavapramarathu Sankaranarayanan Adithirippad were the chief tantriks at the Yajnom.

Swami Prabhakarananda Saraswathi was the Yajnacharya of the vedic ritual.

The week-long Somayagom came to a close with the priests setting the yagasala and the materials used for the vedic ritual on fire, offering them to the God of Fire, on Sunday afternoon.
