Social media hartal: legal action continues

Probe proceeding on the basis of WhatsApp group admins’s statements

April 23, 2018 12:35 am | Updated 04:07 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The number of cases being registered against those who allegedly circulated fake messages supporting the social media hartal is on the increase with the police widening their search with focus on administrators of various social media groups in the district.

So far 50 persons have been arrested in the limits of various police stations on the basis of the information elicited from the social media group administrators.

Out of the 535 cases registered, 415 were from various rural police station limits.

The police have appealed to social media group members to confidentially pass on the details of persons who are suspected of spreading the misleading messages.

An officer attached to the Cyber cell said the sudden exit or removal from a particular group would never help to save any of the accused in the case.
