Vellappally Natesan, general secretary, Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, has said that the unity move among majority communities has not worked properly.

Addressing Yogam activists on the occasion of the Navathy celebrations of the Vaikom Satyagraha here on Wednesday, Mr. Natesan, without naming the NSS with which the Yogam had entered into an accord, alleged that the Yogam was “snubbed after it was used.”

“Relationship is not a one-way traffic and we cannot accept a master-slave relationship either,” he said. He said the Malayali Memorial had to be countered with an Ezhava Memorial during the last century to get even with those forces who were opposed to equality. “We will not stand betrayal,” he said.

According to him, the government had discussed the issue regarding the Devaswom Recruitment Board only with the ‘Savarna’ community, while the majority was not taken into confidence.

“They have asked for 18 per cent from the reserved quota. This means they would be getting the 50 per cent general category plus the 18 per cent, a total of 68 per cent,” he said.

Already the ‘Savarna’ sections had nearly 90 per cent presence in the temple administration as well as State administration, he said. “They still want to continue the system were the downtrodden are here to provide the revenue to the temples while administration will be in their hands,” Mr. Natesan alleged.

The Navathy celebrations, held at the Asramam School at Vaikom, were inaugurated by Cardinal Baselios Cleemis.
