The Special Investigation Team (SIT) which probed the abduction and sexual assault of a female actor in Kochi will seek fast-tracking of the judicial proceedings in the case.

According to sources, a request to expedite the trial will be submitted to the Ernakulam District and Sessions Court once the case comes up for consideration. Considering the gravity of the offences involved in the case, the Judicial First Class Magistrate at Angamaly is slated to commit it to the sessions court for further proceedings.

The move to speed up the trial is being initiated to avoid the possibility of the accused, who also includes highly influential personalities, influencing at least some of the witnesses in the case.

Meanwhile, the SIT will soon be approaching the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Angamaly seeking to revoke the bail granted to Dileep, eighth accused in the case. ‘‘A petition to this effect will be filed before the court once the court completes the verification of the chargesheet against the actor and accepts the same in its file,’’ they said.

The SIT has already submitted a chargesheet elaborately explaining Dileep’s role in the crime. As per the chargesheet, the actor nursed a grudge towards the victim over her reported involvement in the break-up of his previous matrimonial relationship.

The investigation team found that the actor had attempted to cast aspersions on the victim even after the crime took place and used a few personalities in the Malayalam film industry for the purpose. At the same time, he also attempted to picture himself as innocent in the case and made a few prominent personalities to speak for him.

Further, the actor is also accused of arranging a fake medical certificate to prove that he was admitted to a hospital when the crime took place on February 17.

Dileep, who has been accused of hatching a conspiracy with Pulsar Suni, the prime accused, has been booked for offences including gangrape, criminal conspiracy and video-graphing the victim to malign her.
