The Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiring into the political murders in Idukki on Wednesday questioned Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary K.K. Jayachandran, MLA, in connection with the murder of Indian National Trade Union Congress leader Anchery Baby on November 13, 1982.
Mr. Jayachandran was the Rajakkad area committee secretary at the time of the incident.
Mr. Jayachandran, representing the Udumbanchola constituency, arrived at the Circle Inspector’s office here around 10.30 a.m., accompanied by S.Rajendran MLA.
He was questioned for nearly three hours by the SIT team led by Ernakulam Range Inspector-General of Police K.Padmakumar.
The interrogation was done in-camera at a specially arranged room at the Circle Inspector’s office.
The questioning was video-recorded to be presented before the court. Mr. Padmakumar told the media that the SIT could gather more information from Mr. Jayachandran, which would be verified by the SIT. If required, he would be called again for questioning.
Mr. Jayachandran said the SIT asked him certain questions to which he answered to the best of his knowledge.
He said there was a concerted move by those in power to defame and attack the party.
Mr. Jayachandran was questioned after taking statements from Mr. Mani at Thodupuzha on July 4.
Mr. Mani had said in a public speech at Manakkad, near Thodupuzha, on May 25 that the party had prepared a hit list of its opponents and three of them had been eliminated.
