Shobana George, M.R. Murali withdraw from the fray

March 30, 2011 09:02 pm | Updated 09:02 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Former Congress MLA Shobana George on Wednesday withdrew her nomination papers for the Assembly elections from the Chengannur constituency in Alappuzha district. She had filed the papers as an Independent candidate against her party's official candidate P.C. Vishnunath.

Another notable development on the last day for withdrawing nomination papers for the Assembly elections was in Shoranur in Palakkad district, where M.R. Murali of the Janakeeya Vikasana Munnani withdrew his nomination papers. Formerly a leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), he was with the Edathupaksha Ekopana Samithy formed by those who were expelled from or had left the CPI(M) in recent years.

The Edathupaksha Ekopana Samithi expelled him from its fold alleging that he was showing an inclination to cooperate with the United Democratic Front in these elections. He is now the chairman of the Shoranur municipality.
