Ship-boat collision: Court releases seaman into police custody

Ambalappuzha Judical First Class Magistrate, V.Udayakumar on Tuesday released Mayur Virendra Kumar, a seaman on the Singapore-flagged ship, m.v.Prabhu Daya and second accused in the ship-boat collision case, into police custody till March 16.

The magistrate gave the order following an application filed by the police at the court on Monday.

The police are seeking the custody of Virendra Kumar for further questioning on what happned on the night of March 1, when the ship he was traveling on, m.v.Prabhu Daya allegedly rammed Don-1, a fishing boat set off from Kollam, resulting in killing five fishermen.
