The Pathanathitta District Kathakali Club will be organising a five-day Kathakali fest as part of its 16th anniversary celebrations at Cherukolpuzha near Kozhencherry from January 4 to 8, said Dr Jose Parakkadavil, club president.
Dr Parakkadavil, accompanied by the club office-bearers, Zacharia Mathew, M.Ayyappankutty, Prasad Ananda Bhavan and Johnson Mathew, was addressing a press conference here on Friday.
Shaji N.Karun, renowned cine personality, will inaugurate the Kathakali fest in the forenoon and Dr Parakkadavil will preside over the function.
T.N.Upendranatha Kurup, Hindumatha Maha MAndalam president, willdeliver thekeynote address. Sreekala Harikumar, Ayroor grama panchayat president; P.G.Sureshkumar of Asianet and Prasad Ananda Bhavan, convener, will also address the inaugural function.
Natyabharati Award
This year’s Natyabharati Award instituted by the club will be presented to Kalamandalam Krishnadas, renowned Chenda exponent, on the occasion.
A Kathakali demonstration by Kalamandalam Rajeev will be held in the forenoon session, said Dr Parakkadavil.
The Kalamandalam Deemed University vice-chancellor, P.N.Suresh, will inaugurate the maiden performance (Arangettom) of the students at the Natyabharathi Kathakali Centre at 6 pm.
A Kathakali on `Ravana-vijayom’ will be staged, later, in the evening.
V.Kaladharan, public relations officer at Kerala Kala Mandalam, will inaugurate the Kathakali workshop to be held on January 5 forenoon.
A Kathakali demonstration by the renowned performer, Fact Mohan, will be the main attraction of the workshop, said Dr Parakakdavil.
Another workshop on Kathakali percussion by Mankulam Krishanan Namboodiri (Chenda) wil be held, later at 5 pm.
Kathakali performance on `Dakshayagom’ will be held, later, at 7 pm.
A Kathakalai workshop for school children will be held on January 6 forenoon. Babu George, District Panchayat president, will inaugurate the workshop at 10 am and a demonstration by Ettumanur Kannan will be held on the occasion.
Prof Ambalappuzh Ramavarma, will inaugurate the seminar on Kathakali at 2 pm.
A Kathakali on `Kalyanasaugandhikom’ will be staged, later, at 6.15 pm. Kalamandalam Gopi, winner of this year’s Kalidas Samman of Madhya Pradesh Government would felicitated on the occasion.
Annapoornadevi, Koipram grama panchayat president, will inaugurate the cultural contests on January 7 forenoon.
A Kathakali on `Rugmangacharitom’ will be staged, later, at 6.15 pm.
C.R.Krishna Kurup, State Adhyapaka Kala SAhitya Vedi secretary, will inaugurate the Kathakali quiz and drawing contests on January 8 forenoon.
Sopana Sangeethom (Ashtapadi) performance by Ambalappuzha Vijayakumar, will be held at 5 pm. Mr Raju Abraham, MLA, will inaugurate the valedictory function at 6.15 pm.K.V.Sambadevan, Palliyoda Seva Sanghom president; M.P.Sasidharan nair, Hindumatha Maha Mandalam secretary and P.S.Nair, Travancore Development Council chairman, will also address the function.
A Kathakali performance on `Nalacharithom-3rd day’ will be held, later, 7.30 pm, said Dr Parakkadavil.
