Virtually kick-starting his party’s campaign for the ensuing Assembly polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Thursday called upon the people to elect his party to power in the State.

Mr. Shah was here to inaugurate the district-level culmination of the Vimochana Yatra taken out by BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan. “The people of the State want a transformation of its socio-political environment and the Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front will never be able to provide it. The two coalitions had kept Kerala away from the path of development and only the BJP will be able to take the State on board the development path led by Narendra Modi,” he said.

The policy of appeasement and vote-bank politics, followed by the two coalitions in the State, has alienated a large segment of the population. “If the BJP comes to power, we will ensure equal justice for all,” he said.

The Left has shed its identity it had when it came to power for the first time in Kerala, he said. “They are open-heartedly inviting corporates and celebrating Janmashtami,” Mr. Shah said.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan said the State was at a crossroads. The two coalitions, which came to power alternatively, have pushed society into a major crisis.
