Six students of Government Victoria College in Palakkad were injured in a clash between workers of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on the campus on Wednesday.
The injured included college union chairman M. Hashir. A tense situation prevailed outside the General Hospital here after the injured were admitted there. CPI(M) workers gathered close to the hospital following reports that BJP workers went inside the hospital to beat up the injured SFI activists. The police had to intervene to defuse the situation.
Trouble began in the morning when ABVP workers alleged that SFI workers had taken away a flag post they installed on the campus on Tuesday night. A protest march was held on the campus in which ABVP workers damaged the flag post of the SFI. Other than Mr. Hashir, SFI leaders Ajith and Akshay sustained injuries in the clash. ABVP leaders Karthick, Akhil, and Sivan also suffered injuries.
