Senior journalist dies in rail mishap

Senior Journalist and Resident Editor of ‘Jaihind’ Television’s Kochi Bureau, C Sankaranarayanan died in a train mishap early this morning at Pattam Thuruth near Perumon in Kollam district.

He was 45. He is survived by his wife, an employee of the State Bank of Travancore, and two sons, family sources said.

Mr. Sankaranarayanan was returning to Kochi from Thiruvananthapuram in Amritha express late last night when he fell from the train. The body was found on the railway track this morning.

After inquest, the body was shifted to Alaupuzha medical college for post-mortem. The cremation is expected to be held at Koratty in Thrissur district later today.

Sankaran, as he was known among friends, began his career with ‘Mathrubumi’, with which he was associated for over 20 years. He joined the newspaper as a part time correspondent in Thrissur and was later absorbed in service in 1993 at Kozhikode. He served in Palakaad, Thodupuzha and kochi bureaus also, before joining Jai Hind in 2006.
