Security stepped up in Kerala

July 13, 2011 09:29 pm | Updated 09:29 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Kerala Police have stepped up security in the State in the wake of the serial blasts in Mumbai on Wednesday.

They have ordered all law-and-order officers to exercise extreme vigil and caution in their respective areas of jurisdiction and focus their anti-sabotage checks on crowded commercial areas, railway stations, bus terminals, cinema halls, and other busy public venues.

The State police and the Railway Protection Force are conducting joint inspections of platforms and rail tracks. All coastal police stations have been alerted. There has been no Central government warning of a specific threat to Kerala so far. However, Central agencies have advised enhanced police vigil and surveillance.

They have urged the public to immediately alert police control rooms of unclaimed baggage and suspiciously parked vehicles.

The Central Industrial Security Force, the paramilitary unit responsible for the security of airports and other key institutions, has also stepped up its vigil.

The police are also in touch with the Coast Guard and the Navy for enhanced maritime security.
