The Ambalappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Monday sent Saritha S. Nair, one of the accused in a cheating case registered by the Ambalappuzha police, to police custody for four days.
A special team led by Alappuzha Dy.SP. K. Sreekumar brought her from Perumbavoor and produced her before the Ambalappuzha court at 3 p.m. The case had been registered on a complaint filed of Narayanan Namboothiri of the Plakkudi Illam at Ambalappuzha.
According to the complaint, Saritha Nair allegedly extorted Rs.74 lakh from a family consortium for starting a solar plant at Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. She reportedly told the court that she was not a party to the case and Biju Radhakrishnan had collected money in the name of West Wind Corporation.
She was a staff and had no power in the company. She did not sign in the contract or any other paper, she reportedly told the court.
Meanwhile, she requested the court to keep her away from the “attack” of the media. The judge D. Udayakumar opined that if she gave a written complaint about the media, the court would consider it.
Public prosecutor Sajay Jacob asked the court to send her to 14 days’ police custody, while counsel of Saritha, Fenny Balakrishnan, asked the court to send her only for three days as she was not a party to the case registered by the police.
Alappuzha Dy.SP. K. Sreekumar and Ambalappuzha CI P.V. Baby were present in the court.
