The Vadakara Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Monday remanded Saritha S. Nair, prime accused in the solar scam, in police custody for two days in connection with a case registered against her for defrauding a school principal of Rs.2 lakh.
Magistrate M. Suhaib was acting on an application moved by Thamarassery Deputy Superintendent of Police Jaison K. Abraham seeking permission to question her. The police custody will end at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Vadakara police had registered a case against her on the charge of duping Thodanoor Vidya Prakash Public School Principal M.T. Joseph after promising him that her company would set up a windmill to generate electricity on the campus in 45 days.
A team led by her visited the school and obtained an advance cheque payment. She absconded after cashing the cheque for Rs.2 lakh, in 2008.
She had approached the school in the name of a fictitious company - International Consultancy and Management Services - established at Thirumagal Nagar, Coimbatore.
Another educational institution at Vadakara had also been cheated in a similar manner. But the school authorities had not given a complaint, the police said. Biju Radhakrishnan, her partner and the second accused, will be produced in the court on Tuesday. More evidence will also be collected on Tuesday.
The court recorded the samples of her signature and handwriting. M. Udaya, assistant public prosecutor, appeared for the prosecution. Saritha was produced in the court after obtaining a production warrant in the case. Saritha and Biju Radhakrishnan were remanded in judicial custody in two other cases. One of the cases related to defrauding a businessman Vincent Simon of Mokavoor, Erhanikkal, of Rs.12 lakh and another of duping Abdul Majeed, owner of Associated Steels Yard, of Rs.42.70 lakh.
