Saturday was a memorable day for the students of the Vocational Higher Secondary School(VHSS) ,Ambalavayal, as nearly 1000 students planted as many as 1000 tree saplings belonging to different species, together on the slopes of the Cheengeri hills in the district. The programme titled as ‘Sapling Plantation Festival’ aimed at sensitizing the younger minds on the importance of planting and conserving trees as a part of the ‘Child Friendly Village’ campaign of the World Vision, an NGO in the district.

The programme was organised jointly by World Vision, Krishi Vijnan Kendra Ambalavayal, forest department and VHSS, Ambalavayal.

The programme commenced with a rally starting from the premises of the Heritage Museum, Ambalavayal with carrying the saplings to plant.

P.M. Joy, president, Sulthan Bathery Block panchayat inaugurated the programme. Ms. Sathyaprabha, forest range officer delivered the message of the programme. The children took an oath that they would under take the protection measures of the planted saplings after they planted it.
