Sand mafia kingpin held

The alleged kingpin of a Sasthamcotta-based sand mafia, Kiran Chandran, was arrested by the Sasthamcotta police on Saturday on directions from Kottarakara Deputy Superintendent of Police B. Krishnakumar.

17 other cases

The police said that Kiran is involved in 17 other criminal cases including an attempt to murder case.

Mr. Krishnakumar said that Kiran has political connection and using that he had been evading arrest though various police stations had registered cases against him. He was apprehended by Additional Sub Inspector Joseph. Kiran was produced before the Sasthamcotta Judicial First Class Magistrate Court and remanded in the Kottarakara sub-jail for 14 days.
