March taken out to Harrisons Malayalam at Chudale as part of a State-wide stir
Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] central committee member K.K. Shylaja said here on Tuesday that the land agitation launched by the Bhoo Samrakshana Samithi (BSS) demanding land for landless people would be the biggest agitation for land since the surplus land agitation led by the CPI(M) in the State a few decades ago .
She was speaking after inaugurating a march taken out to Harrisons Malayalam Plantations (Ltd) at Chudale in the district on Tuesday as part of a State-wide land agitation. As many as 250 volunteers of the BSS, a collective of the feeder organisations of the CPI (M), including the Kerala Karshaka Sangham, Kerala State Karshaka Thozhilali Union, Adivasi Kshema Samiti, and Pattika Jathi Kshema Samiti, participated in the march. The protesters demanded the withdrawal of the alleged move to amend the Land Reforms Act, resumption of land that had completed the lease tenure and land deeds to all farmers for the land possessed by them.
M. Velayudhan, chairman, BSS district unit, presided over the protest.
