The Sri Atmananda Memorial (SAM) School at Malakkara, near Aranmula, will be hosting a three-day colloquium on ‘Teacher-Student Relationship in Education’ from August 4 to 6, according to Tarla Nanavati, school principal.
Chandra Montgomery Nicol, the executive director of Clonlara School in Ann Arbor in Michigan, which is the oldest operating K-12 free school in the United States, will inaugurate the three-day event on Thursday.
Ms Nicol has got 48 years of experience in the field of alternative education and is the daughter of Pat Montgomery, a renowned advocate of alternative education, says Ms Nanavati.
The Clonlara US high school diploma is one of the streams offered at SAM School and is treated by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the Plus Two credential for admission to Indian universities.
The director of the National Institute of Arts and Crafts attached to the French Ministry of Culture in Paris, Pascal LeClercq, will deliver the valedictory speech on Saturday.
Mr. LeClercq has served as director of several national cultural institutions at ministerial-level in France and has also served as UNESCO expert for intangible cultural heritage, Ms. Nanavati says.
Expert interaction
Eminent educationists from India and abroad would interact with the alumni and teachers of the school to explore the importance of a strong teacher-student relationship in education, Ms. Nanavati said.
The Atma Vidya Educational Foundation (India), Organisation for Atma Vidya Educational Foundation (USA), and Association pour le Soutien a AVEF (France), are the co-sponsors.
