The formal opening ceremony of the Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta 2013 was held at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, here on Wednesday, marking the beginning of the annual event in the Ettikulum Bay at the academy.
INA Deputy Commandant Rear Admiral G.V. Ravindran inaugurated the event in which teams from the United Kingdom, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Fiji, Oman, Qatar, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates, as also the Indian team, are participating.
The regatta is being organised by the Indian Sailing Association and conducted by the Marakkar Watermanship Training Centre, INA. The races, on Laser (Radial) class sailing boats, have been scheduled over three days. The participating teams have to sail their boats over specified distances within the bay in accordance with internationally established sailing rules.
The closing ceremony of the event, along with the prize distribution, is scheduled on Saturday.
