SAI hostel death: interim report submitted

June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 03, 2016 02:42 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

The probe panel inquiring into the death of an athlete at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel here, in its interim report, has said that there is no evidence to file a case under clauses for abetting suicide. The Crime Branch has submitted an interim report to the Superintendent of Police.

The report said there were disparities in the statements given by students to the police and the magistrate earlier. Four students had consumed a toxic fruit and one of them died. The students had alleged that they were being ragged by seniors, which reportedly led to the suicide attempt.

Contradictions

Special Correspondent writes from Thiruvananthapuram: In the interim report, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Alappuzha, reportedly stated that he found contradictions in the statements of the survivors. First, they said seniors had found out they had consumed an alcoholic beverage and feared that they would embarrass them. Later, they retracted the statement.
