‘Run for Rio’ in Thiruvalla

: The Young Men’s Christian Association conducted a ‘Run for Rio’ event in Thiruvalla on Saturday in connection with the forthcoming Olympics in Brazil.

Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Chandrashekharan flagged off the run, from the Cross Junction to the YMCA Junction in Thiruvalla. A large number of sports enthusiasts, including women and children, took part in the run.

As many as 330 children from different parts of the district joined the run, extending their support to the Olympics athletes

Municipal chairman K.V.Varghese, and Saji Alex, Pathanamthitta Sports Council president, jointly lighted the ceremonial lamp at the flag-off ceremony.

The run was supported by different organisations and individuals, that included sports administrators, former players, district associations of football, basketball, athletics, roller skating , table tennis, shuttle badminton, Rotary Club, and merchant associations.

A quiz was also organised at YMCA Junction as part of the event.
