For the second day in a row, a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus snatched away the life of a two-wheeler rider on the roads of Alappuzha, this time crushing under its wheel a housewife.
Rani Philip, 38, wife of A.J. Philip, was driving her scooter along the Edathua-Chakulathukavu Road about 7.45 a.m. when an Edathua-Alappuzha KSRTC bus overtook her. The bus struck her bike on the handle, and the woman was caught under the rear wheels of the bus.
Though she was rushed by the local people to a private hospital in Changanassery, her life could not be saved. Though Ms. Philip was wearing a helmet, it did little to save her as the bus had run over her, crushing even the helmet.
On Friday, a KSRTC Super Fast bus had hit a two-wheeler on which 26-year-old Sreenath was travelling near the Kaniyamkulam Junction near Alappuzha town. Sreenath too was thrown off the bike and caught under the rear wheels of the bus. He died on his way to hospital and the bus, which sped off without stopping, is yet to be identified.
Eye-witnesses remember only the Super Fast sticker on the side of the bus, with none of them being able to note the registration number or route.
