Snakeboats

The MLA said the Irrigation wing of the Water Resources Department would remove the mudbanks that have been posing problems to the easy movement of the majestic Palliyodams (snakeboats) of Aranmula.

She said the decision was on the basis of a memorandum received in this regard from the Palliyoda Seva Sanghom, organisers of the annual Uthrittathi snakeboat regatta in the Pampa river at Aranmula during the Onam festival.

The Water Resources Department would remove all mudbanks, with thickets of grass flourishing on them, from the riverbed along the Parappuzhakkadavu-

Malethukadavu stretch of the river.

The department would also chalk out measures to facilitate easy access for the Palliyodams to the Sree Parthasarathy Temple ghats in Pampa, she said.
