The Railway Budget presented in Parliament by Union Railway Minster Suresh Prabhu on Thursday earmarks Rs.50 crore for the electrification of the Panambur section in the Shoranur-Mangaluru sector.
The budget allocated Rs.4.2 crore for doubling of tracks in the 221 km from Kozhikode to Mangaluru. When Rs.2.5 crore was kept aside for an additional railway line for handling goods at the West Hill station, Rs.80 lakh was allocated for improving goods handling at the Nilambur Road station. In the Palakkad Division, Rs.100 crore had been earmarked for gauge conversion in the Dindigul-Pollachi-Palakkad Junction and Pollachi-Coimbatore sections. Rs.90 lakh was allocated for improving safety communication work at level-crossings between Shoranur and Mangaluru.
