Rs. 3.88 crore damage as Kasaragod district records 2,503 mm rains

An estimated Rs. 3.88 crore loss has been registered so far in rain related incidents in the district where an aggregate 2,503.60 mm rains have been regorded since the onset of monsoon in June.

As many as 11 persons lost lives in rain related incidents in the district where 2,070 families were hit by the rain fury, district collectgor P. S. Muhammed Sagir said here on Wednesday.

The incessant rains, accompanied by strong winds also destroyed crops in 427.10 ha land causing a loss of Rs.3,04.30,780.

As many as 41 houses were destroyed and 359 others partially, causing a loss to the tune of Rs.41.50 lakhs and Rs.9,11,580 respectively on this count.

Crops in 20 ha land got damaged while five houses suffered partial damages causing an estimated Rs. 2.64 lakhs worth damages in the widespread rains lashed on Tuesday, he said.

The heavy rains forced the authorities to declare holidays for all schools in the district on Wednesday as rains showed sings of abatement.
