Row over hat gift to Home Minister Rajnath Singh

September 29, 2014 02:29 am | Updated 10:07 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The presentation of a hat to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh by an RSS activist, an accused in the murder of a DYFI activist, during Mr. Singh’s visit to Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here has raised a controversy.

Mr. Santhosh, who placed the hat on Mr. Singh’s head with his permission, is the first accused in the murder of Vishnu at Kaithamukku here in April 2008. Both Santhosh and Vishnu were involved in gang fights previously.

V. Sivankutty, MLA, in a statement here on Sunday, called for an inquiry into the incident.

Criminal cases

Mr. Santhosh was accused in several criminal cases. He could not have managed to go near Mr. Singh, who was under the security cover of Special Protection Group, without the aid of the Kerala government and the BJP leadership.
