Row over denying permission to use toilets

The police station at Mattannur here witnessed unruly scenes on Wednesday morning when the police refused to allow a group of girl students led by the son of Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary P. Jayarajan to use the toilet facilities there.

The Mattannur police informed that an inquiry was initiated by the Station House Officer into a complaint lodged by Ashish P. Raj, Mr. Jayarajan’s son. According to the complaint, the team of school students was travelling in a bus from Bengaluru on their way home after participating in a dance programme in Bhopal. The students sought permission to use the police station toilets when the bus reached Mattannur in the morning. However, the police refused to grant their request and misbehaved with them, the complaint said.

According to the police, a youth came to the station and sought permission to use the toilets for around 15 students. When the police personnel told him that the toilets were not free right then, he responded arrogantly using abusive words. If the police personnel were told that he was the son of a well-known political leader, the police would have made some arrangements for the students to use the toilets, the police said.
