The State Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the Principal and the Parent-Teacher Association of the Chenneerkara Kendriya Vidyalaya on the alleged harassment of the school’s students by taking them to stage a road blockade on July 27.
Nearly 100 children of the lower classes of the Kendriya Vidyalaya were taken to participate in a sit-in on the road at the Central junction here, protesting against the alleged official indifference towards the acute space constraints facing the school. The school is presently functioning from a portion of the Government UP School at Panyali, near Omalloor.
Commission Chairman Justice J.B. Koshy maintained that the parents who made their children to stage a sit-in on the road for hours was harassing them. He further maintained that staging road blockade amounted to denial of human rights to other people. Even the Supreme Court of India had stressed the need for avoiding unlawful agitations and road blockade, he said.
By forcing the small children for the road blockade, the parents were forcing them to violate human rights, the commission opined.
Justice Koshy directed the District Superintendent of Police, the school Principal and the PTA authorities to submit a report on the issue on or before September 13 when the Commission would be holding its sitting at the Government Guest House here.
The SHRC direction was on the basis of a petition filed by Rasheed Anappara, chairman of the RTI Kerala Federation.
