The mortal remains of Joy Sasthampadikal (73), Resident Editor of the Palakkad unit of the Malayala Manorama , were buried at the CSI Holy Trinity church here on Friday.

He died at a private hospital here on Thursday night.

An all-party condolence meeting was held at the Anchuvilakku junction at Fort Maidan here after the funeral. Leader of major political parties in the district spoke.

Minister for Electricity Aryadan Mohammed, Minister for Excise K. Babu, and Minister for Cooperation C.N. Balakrishnan laid wreaths on the body of the departed journalist.

District Collector K.V. Mohan Kumar laid a wreath on the body on behalf of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Shafi Parambil, V.T. Balram, V. Chenthamarakshan, K.V. Vijayadas, and M. Hamsa, all MLAs; Congress leaders A.C. Jose and M.M. Hassan; and people from different walks of life paid their last respects to him.

The veteran journalist joined the Malayala Manorama at Kozhikode in 1966. In 1992, when its Palakkad edition was started, he was appointed as Assistant Editor and later Resident Editor. He had won many awards including the K.C. Daniel and N.V. Paily awards for his contributions to the field of journalism.

He is survived by daughter, Smitha, and son, Sumesh. His wife, Mery Sasthampadikal, passed away a few years back.
