Rich Padma haul for Keralites

Vishnu Naryanan Namboothiri, poet; Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K. Radhakrishnan; Santhosh Sivan, cinematographer; Kalamandalam Sathyabhama, Mohiniyattom exponent; M. Subhadra Nair, gynaecologist; M. Chandradathan, space scientist; T.P. Jacob, vascular surgeon; and E.D. Jemmis, scientist and educator; are among the Keralites honoured with the Padma awards announced on Saturday.

While Dr. Radhakrishnan has been chosen for the Padma Bhushan, the others have been picked for the Padma Shri. Dipika Pallikkal, squash player, and actor Vidya Balan are also among those who have brought honours for the Malayali milieu. Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri, 74, contemporary poet, is the winner of several awards.

Kalamandalam Sathyabhama was Principal of Kalamandalam. E.D. Jemmis is a Professor of theoretical chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science , Bangalore. He had served as Director, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research here.

Mr. Chandradathan is Director, LPSC, ISRO. Dr. Subhadra Nair, gynaecologist, was Head, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, SAT Hospital, here. T.P Jacob, former Professor, Madras Medical College, had started the first MCh course in vascular surgery in India.
