Republic Day contingent given send-off

The 111-stong National Cadet Corps (NCC) from Kerala scheduled to take part in the Republic Day celebrations was given a send-off at the Central railway station here on Sunday.

Along with fellow cadets from the 16 other NCC directorates in the country, the Kerala contingent will compete in various events, including tent-pitching, drills, firing and equestrian competition. They will take part in the Republic Day parade, the Prime Minister’s rally and the Guard of Honour. To prepare themselves for the events, the cadets underwent 3 months of intensive training, a press note issued here said.

The Kerala contingent is led by Col. Nandakumar and Lt. Col. Murali.

The contingent, which left Thiruvananthapuram by the Kerala Express, was given lunch by Kollam NCC group and tea by the Ernakulam group. They were given dinner at Palakkad by the Kozhikode group.

Deputy director general, NCC, Brigadier N. Sanalkumar and Director Col. P. G. Krishna were among those who participated in the send-off at the railway station, the press note added.
