The project officer of the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) at Attappady in a report to the government has sought action on the new encroachment and grabbing of land belonging to the tribal people of Sholayur grama panchayat using fabricated documents.

The report sent to the Director of Tribal Welfare Department on May 25, 2013 by ITDP project officer P.V. Radhakrishnan urged the government to take action against land grabbers under the Kerala Scheduled Tribes (Restriction on Transfer of Lands and Restoration of Alienated Lands) Amendment Act, 1996.

The report sought a joint verification and survey by the Revenue, Registration, and Forest Departments to find out the extent of land lost to the tribal people. The report said that large-scale usurping of tribal land in Survey No.1819 of Kottathara village at Attappady was going on since January this year.

It said the ITDP had inquired into eight cases on complaints from the tribal people about usurping their land using fabricated land documents and also through encroachments.
