Repeal Devaswom ordinance, says BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party State president Kummanam Rajasekharan has demanded the government to repeal its decision to dissolve the Travancore Devaswom Board and also the ordinance forwarded to Governor P. Sathasivam for reducing the board’s tenure from three to two years.

Mr. Rajasekharan said in a statement here on Monday that the Governor had returned the ordinance to the government and the latter was convinced that there was no emergency to dissolve the board.

If Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran’s statement that the board was dissolved in view of corruption, it would be applicable to the CPI(M) nominee too. The government would have piloted a bill when the Assembly was in session on November 9. The decision to issue an ordinance smacks of conspiracy, he said.
