Akbar Kakkattil had a large network of friends within the city and beyond. The writer was remembered by them on Saturday on the occasion of his second death anniversary.

Film-maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, who inaugurated the event, recalled Akbar saying that he had no life without friends. He always used to talk to somebody or the other on the phone. Akbar was also a great family man, Mr. Gopalakrishnan added.

Describing Akbar as a “prince of friendships”, writer U.A. Khader said he could bring along people from different backgrounds on one platform.

Writer T.D. Ramakrishnan was presented the Akbar Kakkattil Award for his novel Sugandhi Enna Andal Devanayaki . The programme was organised by Akbar Kakkattil Trust and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. Discussions on short stories and novels were held as part of the programme.
