“It was the lone fight of a hapless widow to get justice from the government and I won it with the support of ordinary women, children and compassionate human beings from all across Kerala,” K.K. Rema, wife of the slain Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan said.
Speaking to The Hindu here on Sunday after her return from Thiruvananthapuram after a four-day long hunger strike, Ms. Rema said that when the foes of RMP were making sarcastic and snide remarks at her battle, hundreds of people stood by her.
The hunger strike was her last resort to convince the government for a CBI inquiry to uncover the larger conspiracy behind her husband’s murder.
“I am happy that the government has agreed to a CBI inquiry,” she said.
“When I decided to go on an indefinite strike in Thiruvananthapuram, I did not know that people would rush to the spot and express their solidarity,” she recalled.
Regarding CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan remarks that her strike was a ‘damp squib’, she said only Mr. Vijayan could make such spiteful remarks against a woman who was fighting for justice.
“I am ashamed of the CPI (M) leaders who are alienated from the common people and act arrogantly to win personal arguments. It is such leaders who kill communism with their personal agendas,” said Rema.
Praising CPI (M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan she said “he always stood by us and in my hunger protest too, we had his moral support.”
Mr. Achuthanandan represents people who are dissatisfied with the CPI (M)’s “political deviance and elimination tactics,” she said.
