The wife and two minor children of one of the fishermen killed by two Italian marines on board Enrica Lexie have sought to refer to the permanent Lok Adalat their admiralty suit seeking compensation from the owner of the vessel.

In a petition filed in the High Court on Thursday, Doramma and her two children, Derrick and Jeen, said they would like to explore the possibility of finding an amicable settlement to the compensation issue through the Lok Adalat. The petitioners pointed out that a Division Bench had said that it was open to the parties to explore the possibility of a settlement by taking recourse to alternative dispute-resolution methods.

The agent of the ship had furnished Rs.3.10 crore in the High Court on a directive issued on the admiralty suits filed by the relatives of the two fishermen and the boat owner.
