Reflecting true Onam spirit

September 09, 2011 11:31 am | Updated 11:31 am IST - Kozhikode:

Members of the Paramel Grandhalayam and Vayanasala, a village library at Azhinhilam near Ramanattukara in the district, made their Onam celebrations meaningful by distributing ‘Onappudava' (new clothes for the occasion of Onam) to as many as 36 elderly members of the ‘vriddhajana santhwana kendram' (old-age home) functioning under it here on Tuesday.

The celebrations started with arranging a Pookkalam on the library premises by members of the ‘Vanitha Vedi' (women's forum) and ‘Balavedi' (children's forum) of the library. The celebrations included a grand feast, cultural programmes, Onam songs, and a fun-quiz. LIC development officer K.P. Ramesh Babu handed over the Onappudava to the members of the santhwana kendram.

Library president C. Ravunnikutty and secretary S. Haridas, among others, spoke on the occasion.
