Ready to hear victim: SWC member

State Women’s Commission (SWC) member Noorbina Rasheed said here on Monday that the commission was ready to accept a fresh complaint from the Suryanelli sex scandal victim if she really wants to redress her grievances.

She, however, made it clear that any action on her complaint would be initiated only after studying the previous cases registered by the police, court verdicts, and testimonies. “So far, no one has approached us with a plea that the commission should intervene in the issue,” she said.

Ms. Rasheed said the matter would be taken up for special discussion before the full bunch of the women’s panel and, if required, the commission members would visit her to get her testimony.

She said that reports in the media alone could not be considered for reopening a case. “In this case, the commission would be liable to study the previous developments, verdicts of various courts, and the previous testimonies given by the girl in various courts,’ she added.

Asked about the derogatory remarks about the Suryanelli victim by some known social figures, she said, “It is highly unfortunate and condemnable.”
