Pat for cleaning drive
The action plan initiated under ‘Operation Anantha’ in the city deserves compliments from all. The flooding of Thampanoor/ Pazhavangadi /East Fort areas during the rainy season continues to be a real curse for the residents of the capital.
The steps initiated in the past have not so far yielded the desired positive results. Against this background the administration rightly thought of exploring the real causes for failure of the schemes initiated in the past for countering the flooding threat.
In the process the unauthorised constructions/encroachments along the sides of canal route which are really blocking the smooth flow of rain water have come to light. All the social organisations & political parties irrespective of affiliations should extend their full cooperation and support for the effort.

BPCL gas supply
Due to various reasons the Indian Oil Corporation alone is not capable of supplying LPG cylinders to all residents and establishments. People have to wait more than two months to get their supply. Bharat Petroleum may also be allowed to open its outlets in all places where the IOC agencies fail to deliver the gas cylinders within a reasonable time, say 20-25 days.

Extend Metro rail
Among the infrastructure developments, a well conceived Metro rail network would be the most useful component for the residents of any growing city. The present planned metro route is Kazhakuttam to Karmana. Surprisingly this route does not touch our airport, important tourist destinations (Kovalam, Veli, Vizhinjam, Poovar etc) or even the important institutions such as Civil Station, VSSC, Medical College and other large hospitals. Moreover, most of the important residential areas in the city are not covered. Hope the metro planners would consider all these places as well.

Destination boards
Today a lot of people who do not know Malayalam and from outside the State form an integral part of the city. From the daily wage labourers to office staff to professionals a sizeable crowd rely on city transport buses to commute to their workplace and make their way back home. One can see at many points of the city such as Palayam, Karamana, Kazhakuttam, Pattom, East Fort, Thampanoor, many people struggling t o find the exact bus.
It is high time a bilingual destination board was put on buses so that people of other regions can understand the destinations.
