Mess in exam results

The reported ‘mess’ in the announcement of the SSLC exam results has created anxiety for both students and parents. The Minister should have shown his abilities as a good administrator to clean up his department which has been in a mess for years now instead of rushing to announce the results. Ministers are lucky. They are not pulled up for lapses nor are they directed to provide explanations. Our courts should have initiated suo motu action against ministers in such cases.T.V.R. Potti

Good initiative

The Friends of Police initiative by City Police Commissioner H. Venkatesh is a novel step indeed. It goes to the root of the process of changing the image of the police only as a coercive arm of the State. It also brings in an element of participation from civil society to the task of policing which is more feared than admired. Democratic processes would undoubtedly be deepened by this initiative.

But there is need for a word of caution in the midst of admiration. It should be ensured that only persons of integrity and an unblemished track record are selected for the post. There is the fond hope that ‘Friends of Police’ will improve the image of the police in the days to come. Good luck and best wishes for the creative officer who needs our support in no mean measure.
