Repairing and re-tarring of the Mannuthy-Vadakkanchery stretch of the National Highway will be completed in two weeks.

A meeting convened by Thrissur and Palakkad Collectors on Saturday took the decision.

Ollur MLA K. Rajan demanded that the meeting be held as traffic blocks and accidents have become a daily ordeal at Kuthiran owing to the deplorable condition of the National Highway.

The meeting was attended by National Highway Authority of India project director Raj Purohit, P.K. Biju, MP, K. Rajan MLA, Thrissur and Palakkad Collectors and officers from various departments.

The road from Vazhakkumpara to Kombazha will be totally re-tarred. Widening of the stretch is also under consideration. Steps will be taken to fill the potholes on other parts of the road too.

Movement of container lorries and big vehicles will be controlled on the stretch during two weeks of repair. The traffic regulation will be implemented from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Reflector lights and signal system also will be set up in the area.

A decision to avoid vehicle inspection on the stretch was also taken, as this may cause traffic blocks at Kuthiran.

A special officer will be appointed to monitor the repair work.
