Two huge turtles were rescued by the police after they got entangled in a fishing net off Thalangara beach locality here on Saturday.

The turtles of rare species, said to be weighing around 80 kg each, were spotted some distance away from the Thalangara coastal police station at around 10 a.m. during a routine patrolling trail, police sources here said.

A police team led by Circle Inspector Sunil Kumar separated the entangled turtles. The turtle, which sustained minor injuries, were taken to a veterinary surgeon, who administered the first aid treatment.

The turtles were later set into the sea by the jubilant police team.
