Doordarshan Kendra plans to serve aficionados of Mohiniyattam with a rare feast from June 20.

Nine Mohiniyattam maestros will come together on one stage in a unique series ‘Mohiniyattathinte Lokam' produced by the Doordarshan Kendra, Thrissur.

The programme in nine episodes will feature eminent Mohiniyattam dancers such as Kalamandalam Sathyabhama, Kalamandalam Kshemavathy, Kalamandalam Saraswathy, Kalamandalam Leelamma, Kalamandalam Hymavathy, Kalamandalam Suganthy, and Nirmala Panicker, Sridevi Rajan and Kala Vijayan (both daughters of late Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma). The artistes felt that Mohiniyattam has not been getting its due importance.

Proper analysis and presentation of this dance tradition with the co-operation of all the maestros in the field were necessary to give a boost to the art form, they said.

‘Mohiniyattathinte Lokam' will be telecast from June 20 to June 30, at 5.10 p.m., except on Saturday and Sunday, from Thiruvananthapuram on Doordarshan's terrestrial and satellite Channels. Demonstrations and presentations by the gurus and their disciples will be featured in this series.

The programme is directed by C.K. Thomas, director of Doordarshan Kendra, Thrissur.
