The police arrested three persons on Tuesday on the charge of raping and robbing a woman from Melattur. Jaffer Thiruthummal, alias Pathiri Jaffar, 27, from Thazhekode; P.P. Nisar, 25, from Edappatta; and Mujeeb Rahman, alias Saddam, 27, from Edappatta were arrested by a special investigation team which inquired into the incident on January 20 night. The police said the woman was forcibly carried in a car to an empty house in a rubber plantation at Nattukal in Palakkad district, where the three raped her and robbed her of gold jewellery weighing 10 sovereigns.
