Unidentified persons assaulted Congress leader Rajmohan Unnithan when he disembarked from a train at the Central Railway station here on Monday.

The police said a few persons wearing black shirts assaulted him on platform number three. The railway police rushed him to a private hospital in the city.

An official said Mr. Unnithan sustained bruises and contusions in the attack.

The police suspect that CPI(M) men could be behind the attack.

The Thampanoor police have registered a case of assault on the basis of his statement.

Quoting his statement, the police said the assailants had tailed him from the moment he boarded the train. Mr. Unnithan had been in the news recently for levelling certain allegations against few top leaders of the Opposition.
