Railways to ensure 24-hr information centre in Thiruvalla

October 22, 2009 04:51 pm | Updated 04:51 pm IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

Rail passengers in Central Travancore can heave a sigh of relief with the assurance given by the Divisional Railway Manager, Rajiv Dutt Sarma for proper functioning of the information centre at Thiruvalla Railway Station.

Mr. Sarma was interacting with the people’s representatives during his visit to Thiruvalla railway station on Wednesday.

Addressing the meeting held at Thiruvalla railway station, Mr. Anto Antony, MP, Mr. Joseph M. Puthusserry, MLA and the municipal chairman, Cherian Polachirackal, have complained of the grossly inadequate passenger amenities, including the more or less ‘defunct’ information centre, despite it being the only railway station in the district that houses Sabarimala.

Mr. Sarma said Railways would ensure round-the-clock functioning of the information centre at the railway station at the earliest. More Railway Police Force personnel would be deployed at the railway station soon and the damaged computer-linked display boards at the railway station would be repaired in the next two days itself, he added.

Mr. Sarma said Railways would explore the possibility of stopping all trains at Thiruvalla during the forthcoming Sabarimala festival. Steps would be taken to check waste dropping on the road from the rail overbridge across T.K. Road and for repair work on the Railway Station Road, he said.
