Railways should convene MPs’ meet: Sampath

Even just demands of Kerala are consistently ignored, alleges MP

The Railways should convene a meeting of Members of Parliament from Kerala during the Winter session of Parliament, A. Sampath, MP, has demanded.

In Kerala over the years even projects declared in the budget have not been implemented. Even the promises given by the Railway general manager when he recently visited Kerala have not seen the light of the day. The Railway canteen in Thiruvananthapuram has been closed for many weeks now.

Train stoppages are not being implemented according to the declared norms of the Railways. The sanitation situation is in disarray. The reconstitution of the Southern Railway zonal users consultative committee has also been delayed, a press note issued here said.

The blankets and sheets provided in AC coaches should be properly washed. The ageing coaches, lack of cleanliness, low quality catering and the late running of trains have become routine affairs.

Mr. Sampath has charged that there appears to be concerted efforts at the top echelons of the Railways for tearing asunder the Thiruvananthapuram Railway division and for consistently ignoring even the just demands of Kerala. This was pointed out in a letter that the MP sent to the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

There is no logic in keeping in limbo the coaching yard project at Nemom. There is not even one goods yard between Kollam and Nagercoil. Nemom should be developed as Thiruvananthapuram South Railway station. Some trains that go from Chennai to north India can be extended to Nagercoil junction, the letter says.
