Rail services towards Mangaluru was disrupted on Thursday night after a high tension electric overhead equipment (OHE) line snapped at the Kottikulam railway station, located between Kanhangad and Kasaragod.

Railway officials are making frantic efforts to restore the traffic.

The OHE line towards Mangaluru snapped around 8 p.m, disrupting rail services towards Mangaluru and beyond. Railway sources in Kanhangad told The Hindu that services towards Shoranur were not affected.

While the Nagercoil-Mangaluru Central Parasuram Express and the Chennai Egmore- Mangaluru Central Express were halted at the Kanhangad station, the Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Mangala Lakshadweep Express was stopped at the Nileshwar station.

The sources said officials from Mangaluru had reached the spot to clear the line.
