Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has termed the Railway Budget 'disappointing'.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function held here on Friday, Mr. Achuthanandan described as 'farcical' the announcement made by Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee of setting up a coach factory at Palakkad and a wagon factory at Alappuzha. “Sincere attempts have never been made by the Railway Ministry to realise the project. Though the State government has completed all necessary formalities such as land acquisition, support has not been extended by the Ministry for the completion of the project,” he said.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that the Ministry had neglected the State's longstanding demand for electrification of the Shoranur-Mangalore railway line. In spite of repeated requests to introduce a suburban rail project in the State, the Ministry had turned a blind eye to the demand, he said.
